Description Of ItemClipped folio from the Daily Mail in a scrapbook from the collection of John Ritchie relating to an incident in St Clairsville, Ohio (in the US) where a young man, Lester Barry, and two women – his ‘sweetheart’ and a chaperone – were apprehended by a group of masked men dressed in red-trimmed white robes, as part of a ‘purity clean-up’ campaign. Barry and one woman were tied to a tree by their neck and hung close to suffocation before being cut down.
