The College's archives collections consist of three groups of records: the deposited archives, the records of the College itself and the College’s object collections. By ‘deposited archives’ we mean records created or collected by private individuals and organisations who gave, or ‘deposited’, the records to the College for safekeeping.

Each collection has a detailed collection level description, as well as hierarchically arranged descriptions of all the records down to item level. (For definitions of terms used please see the glossary.)

It should be noted that collections have been described according to their creator and not the subject matter of the volumes. Therefore, to give one example, what may be an unknown student’s collection may contain notes from lectures of an important figure in medical history. Because of this, a list of collection titles alone does not give the breadth and depth of the archive’s holdings. Some of the collections are small, sometimes containing only one volume although this is no reflection of their comparative importance. Please click on Browse Collections on the menu on the left of this page to see a full listing of the collections the College archives holds.

Please note that this catalogue is only for the archive collection. The Library catalogue of printed books, journals and pamphlets, can be found here.
