Letter to Mrs Fordyce concerning the case of Miss Buchan (possibly by another member of the family). The letter is written on the same sheet as a statement of the case by Dr C E Bernard dated 26th April and contains a list of the prescriptions filled for Miss Buchan from 23rd March to 23rd April from their apothecary in Bristol as this is 'the only way that Dr A can judge' treatment in the case.

He writes a covering letter for the 'brief hints' he gave to Doctors Allison, Christison and Bell upon which the report of the Sub Committee of the Board of Health on Spasmodic Cholera was framed. The information is on the treatment he adopted in Calcutta [India] from 1817-1822 when he was Apothecary General to the Honourable Company on the Bengal Presidency. He lists the drugs he used and the how they were administered.

The text lists eight requirements for general practice in Edinburgh but may be incomplete: suitable education; right to practice anywhere in the United Kingdom; minimum education and time taken to qualify; minimum age; if apprenticeship not served then proof of practical knowledge in a dispensary required; knowledge of Latin; examination requirements. Not dated but possibly resulting from the controversy around the Apothecaries Act 1815. Originally with ANO/15.

From the collection of William Pulteney Alison. The petition is in response to the Apothecaries Act 1815 which only allowed apothecaries licensed by the Apothecaries Company in London to practise. Their concern was that their members should also be allowed to practice.

The petition is in response to the Apothecaries Act 1815 which would allow physicians to practice as apothecaries in England whereas if they were to in Scotland they would lose their fellowship of the college. Letters in connection with the Appointment of the King's Physician

From the collection of Edwin Bramwell. Letters from Lord Chamberlain Clarendon to Lord Horder, Horder to Bramwell and Bramwell to Horder. Initially they are on Bramwell's recommendation for a replacement for the Surgeon Apothecary to the household at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. He is then approached to be the King's Physician in Scotland but does not get the position due to his rheumatoid arthritis and recommends Davidson, Dunlop or Rae Gilchrist.
