Description Of ItemColour illustration of the lungs, thymus gland, and heart of a newborn infant, which floated in water, to test if the infant had been born alive. The float test and an ‘elastic crepitating feel’ led the inspector to conclude the child had ‘probably breathed.’ Notes made on the reverse.
