Description Of ItemIngredients listed in the recipe are: sage, mercury, [illegible], ‘carduus benedictus’ [blessed or holy thistle], ale, verjuice, liquorice, ‘powder of long pepper’, ‘powder of bays’, and butter.
It instructs to boil the ingredients in ale and verjuice before adding the powders and butter. Once lukewarm, give it to the ‘draft ox or cow’ while ‘upholding [its] head still till all be given’, to rub its mouth, tongue, and back with salt. It recommends to not let the animal eat nor drink the night before and for three hours after.
