Description Of Item | Coloured obstetrical painting with cross hatching done by Petrus Camper for plate XXVIII in William Smellie's 'A Sett of Anatomical Tables' (1754). According to Smellie's accompanying description in his treatise, it depicts 'a side view of a distorted pelvis with 'the Head of a full-grown Foetus squeezed into the Brim, the Parietal Bones decussating each other, and compressed into a conical form'. The labels present in Smellie's treatise do not appear on the painting. It is signed Camper of Londinus 1752. |
