Description Of Item | Coloured obstetrical painting with cross hatching depicting a foetus in the womb with the head forced into the pelvis and forceps applied to the foetus's head to help delivery. The painting was done by Petrus Camper in 1752 for plate XVI in William Smellie's 'A Sett of Anatomical Tables' (1754). The labels present in Smellie's treatise do not appear on the painting. It is signed Camper of Londinus 1752. |
