Description Of Item | Coloured obstetrical painting with ink outlines depicting a foetus in the womb with forceps applied to the head to help delivery. The painting was done by Petrus Camper in 1752 for plate XVII in William Smellie's 'A Sett of Anatomical Tables' (1754) and shows the next step of a delivery with forceps from plate XVI. The labels present in Smellie's treatise do not appear on the painting. It is signed Camper of Londinus 1752. |
