Description Of ItemFrom the collection of William Cullen. He is in co-partnership with Dr Fyfe and they have a mulatto boy called John Moodie working for them. Although his father is an 'eminent practitioner', as his mother is a slave he is also, to the Royal Infirmary. He has been educated as an apothecary and they want to gain his freedom. They ask Cullen for information on Mr Kerr's donation under the Royal Infirmary's charter and whether any part of it can be sold. In exchange they will give the Infirmary's managers 'a female slave who may breed, money or any eligible mode of setting the poor boy free'. He is sorry that Henry did not get the Chair [of Botany].
