TitleLetter from Jas [James] Anderson, Monkshill to William Cullen
Date8 Dec 1782
Description Of ItemHe writes that he has finished a paper for the Philosophical Society which he will send to Cullen. He intends to conduct research on the money obtained from customs in Ross-shire, Sutherland, Caithness, the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland. He does not want to ask the Custom houses 'which might possibly give offence' so asks Cullen for any information. He also hoped to complete a set of machinery for woollen manufacture 'to carry on all the principal branches viz carding, teasing, roving, spinning and weaving'. His main concern is a possible famine. 'There are many whole parishes that cannot produce as much as would sustain the inhabitants a month'. In index.
