TitleCollection of the Goodsir family
DescriptionThis collection consists of volumes of lecture notes either taken by or belonging to three generations of the Goodsir family. John Goodsir of Largo died in 1821; his son, John Goodsir of Anstruther, died c1840; and his son, John Goodsir (1814-1867) was Professor of Anatomy at University of Edinburgh. The volumes have been kept together as it seems likely that they were passed down the generations and shared between the two brothers, John (1814-1867) and Harry, conservator of the museum of the Royal College of Surgeons. Each book has a simple John Goodsir bookplate which may be that of Goodsir of Anstruther. One volume also has Professor Goodsir's bookplate and all except one also have a bookplate for Harry S Goodsir. They have also been numbered. For example GOJ/1/3 is John Goodsir No 89. Again this may have been done by Goodsir of Anstruther and indicates that the volumes were part of a larger collection as the numbers go up to 104.

Although three divisions have been made in the catalogue according to their possible creator, there is very little internal evidence.
