Description Of Item | Addressed to Alexander LeSassier, Assistant Surgeon, 2nd Battalion 42nd Regiment, British Army, Portugal. The writer describes their 'sincere and warm attachment to my dear Alexander since he was an infant when you were...inmates in my house'. The writer reports the death of Mrs Hamilton, possibly the wife of one of LeSassier's uncles, and that LeSassier's 'adopted mother' was asking after him. A note on the reverse indicates that the letter was given to LeSassier in April 1827 which suggests it was not posted. It was found amongst the letters of Isabella Hodgson but it is not in her handwriting. |
