| Description Of Item | Press cutting of page 58 from the Medical Circular, originally published 25 January 1865. Article titled ‘Pathology of erysipelas; traumatic delirium; efficacy of large doses of digitalis.’ It records two cases of patients having received traumatic injuries and suffering from delirium. The surgeon [Alfred] Velpeau was able to save the second patient by administering a tincture of digitalis, after opium revealed unsuccessful in calming the patient. The article refers to the different types of delirium: delirium ebriositatis, nervous delirium, and delirium traumaticum.
