A note with the criticism reads 'This criticism on Dr Carpenter's views was written in the autumn of 1844 at the request of Dr Forbes that Dr C's complaint of neglect of them (see letters) might be met and the distinction between them and Dr Laycock's shown. It was to be added to the paper on 'The Reflex Function of the Brain' published in the British and Foreign Medical Review January 1845 but Dr Forbes suppressed it at the request of Carpenter and returned it' signed by T Laycock. |
