| Description Of Item | A non-contemporary and unattributed annotation on the front inside cover of the first volume reads: 'These 12 volumes of notes taken from the first series of lectures on Natural History delivered in Edinburgh University subsequently to March 1782 are presumed to be partly in the handwriting of Francis Morison older brother of John Morison of Hetland'. Footnotes to the annotation give references for the information, with the evidence for Francis Morison as the writer coming from the Edinburgh edition of Bains[?]. All the volumes have the same bookplate on the inside front cover which reads 'Morison House, Hetland, Ruthwell' which was presumably the Morison family home but it is not known at what date. These lectures notes were originally a series of 12 volumes but volumes 5, 6 and 7 are wanting. |
