Description Of ItemFrom the collection of Richard Poole. Howison was tried and executed for the murder of Martha Geddes. Poole compiled these papers while assisting Howison's counsel. They include: summons to Poole to appear as a witness; letter from Andrew Dunn returning Baillie Small's letter and despairing of the apathy of others; letter from James Simpson returning papers and wishing Howison could have been treated; Poole's notes on the case with extracts from other writers including Abercrombie on the brain; draft and final petition to the King from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh to save Howison; and draft letter by Poole to Baillie Small.
