Description Of Item | The entries are on a variety of medical subjects and include treatments as well as diseases, conditions and symptoms and are in Pringle's own hand except where he has pasted in letters and papers sent to him. An entry may consist of a quotation on the subject, an extract from a letter, relevant case notes, Pringle's own personal observations or a combination of these. The entries are not arranged in any discernible order but are well indexed in each volume. The spellings are as they occur in the volumes.
The chapters are often continued between volumes with references to the next volume (or in some cases a previous volume) and page number at the end of the entry. An entry is only listed in the volume in which it first appears unless the title significantly alters. Some of the cross references are to pages which are not in the extant volume.
Each volume has indexes by diseases and symptoms; diet and medicines; and proper names and places unless otherwise stated. The dates are approximate and closer reading may reveal dates subsequent to the ones given. |
