Description Of Item | This series includes both subject specific buff-coloured files and general blue files, which were alphabetical by correspondent, as these files were kept together in the same packets. It should be noted that a correspondent could have their own file and have papers in the general files. The general files did not have titles but instead had printed tabs with the letter of the alphabet. The titles in the entries are as they were given on the file cover but the original covers were not retained. Correspondence is both manuscript and typed.
Any reference to the South-Eastern Counties division means the counties of Berwickshire, Selkirkshire, Peeblesshire and Roxburghshire.
SMC/2/1/30-52, SMC/2/1/159-181 and SMC/2/1/200-208 were found after cataloguing the rest of the series so are not in the correct alphabetical order. SMC/2/1/297-308, the War Office files, had also originally been kept in a separate packet so may have been seen as a separate sequence. |
