Description Of ItemConcentrated Fluid Extract of Senna, prepared by Duncan, Flockhart & Co., Chemists to the Queen. Made from the leaves and fruit of the Senna plant, Senna can be administered in tablets or as a liquid (termed “fluid extract” or “concentrated essence” in the nineteenth century). In 1835, it was recorded that British Concentrated Fluid Extract of Senna was a more potent infusion than the American equivalent of the same period. Senna has been used as a powerful laxative to treat constipation since the ninth century and is still prescribed today.
