Description Of ItemOff-white triangular bandage printed with illustrations showing how the bandage can be used with accompanying labels, for example ‘Fracture of bones of foot’, ‘Fracture of Clavicle’. 'The Vernaid Bandage' is printed along the bottom and in top corner there is a cross containing the inscription 'V & Co. Ltd.' On the bottom right is printed ‘Registered design No 710438 approved by Sir James Cantlie K.B.E. F.R.C.S.’. Cantlie was a Scottish physician and worked at Charing Cross Hospital, London, and later in Hong Kong where he co-founded the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, which later became the University of Hong Kong. After returning to London Cantlie was involved in the founding of the London School of Tropical Medicine and was founder of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. During the First World War Cantlie’s work was focused on the provision of ambulance services.
