Description Of Item | Following a request from the Royal Commission on the Geographical Distribution of the Industrial Population the College appointed a committee to draw up and submit a statement on the issue. The Committee members included Drs Alexander Goodall, J D Comrie, E Bramwell, W T Ritchie, C McNeil, A F Hewat, A G McKendrick, J D Gilruth, W T Benson, E Watt, T D Inch, associated with Mr W J Stuart (President, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh), Dr G A Brown (Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow), and Dr P L McKinlay (Department of Health, Scotland). Much of the report was based on statistics and data including general death rates, infant mortality rates, National Health Insurance sickness rates, and data obtained from the medical inspection of school children.
