| Description Of Item | Following a memorandum and conference of an exploratory committee (1948) a joint committee was established in 1949 to 'speak for consultants with one voice...on matters arising out of the National Health Service Acts and the report of the Spens Committee on Remuneration of Consultants and Specialists.' The committee consisted of representatives of the Royal Colleges, the Royal Scottish Corporations and the British Medical Association.
