Testimonials were sought on Abercrombie's behalf by his friends so were not always addressed to him.
These letters were arranged alphabetically by correspondent in the previous catalogue. However, 33 of the letters (ABJ/4/3/1-29) had been numbered so this order was reinstated with the remaining letters arranged chronologically.
