Description Of ItemColour illustration of a wounded portion of the principal artery of the thigh that had been ‘very nearly cut across,’ with a medical instrument protruding through the severed artery. As noted on the reverse, the injury resulted in the ‘almost immediate death’ of the patient. Notes on reverse are written in two different hands, the lower note seems to have been written very hastily. The upper note is signed and dated AW [Alexander Watson?]. The lower note also references a case [Medical legal case]. It also references a similar case which ‘occurred to prof. Lizars’ [John Lizars] of a wound of the subclavian artery.
