Description | Burt studied medicine at University of Edinburgh and took his MD at the University of Giessen in 1826. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1843 and rose to be President in 1863. He was also surgeon to the Midlothian Yeomanry Corps, Royal Company of Archers and the Edinburgh Artillery Volunteers. His most famous work was 'Illustrations on Surgical Anatomy' published in 1831.
