Description Of Item | Coloured obstetrical painting with cross hatching done by Petrus Camper for plate XXXVI in William Smellie's 'A Sett of Anatomical Tables' (1754). According to Smellie's accompanying description in his treatise, the painting depicts 'the method for extracting, with the assistance of a curved Crochet, the head of the Foetus when left in the Uterus, after the Body is delivered and separated from it'. The labels present in Smellie's treatise do not appear on the painting. It is signed Camper of Londinus 1752. |
