Description Of Item | The Clinical Research Laboratory was founded as the result of a donation in 1908 by an anonymous friend of Dr George A Gibson. Gibson applied to the managers of the Royal Infirmary for accommodation for a laboratory and permission was granted and trustees appointed. The original trustees were Sir Thomas R Fraser, Dr George Gibson and Dr Harry Rainy. The laboratory was formally opened on 13th October 1910. A lot of the early research conducted there resulted in papers relating to the study of heart disease. It is not known why Gilchrist had the papers of the laboratory but it may have been because of this connection with heart disease. |
