The diaries relating to his involvement in the Peninsular Wars start with an entry per day but become progressively more narrative in style and therefore more difficult to date. As there are later amendments it would appear that Hamilton may have considered publishing them. They are mostly paper bound volumes with some loose inserts and from HAL/2/5/18-59 they are in a similar narrow format. After he returns from the Peninsular War he keeps printed diaries, then diaries ruled into entries and finally narrative style journals. This section also includes the journals he kept of his dreams. |
