Description Of Item | This section contains the cash books of Ann Home, wife of James Home. They record expenditure on household items for Home's properties at York Place and Cowdenknowes. Receipts are occasionally mentioned particularly in the later volumes. The covers have numerous notes attached by pins or glue. James Home married Ann Duncan and they lived at Cowdenknowes in the summer and York Place in the winter. Francis Home had bought Cowdenknowes in Berwickshire and James improved it, although too quickly for his means and it had to be sold. From 1839 they appear to have spent the summer at Avontown. According to the donor these are Ann's account books. |
