Description Of Item | The card index was compiled while the collection was at the Cairns Library, Oxford, probably by a Dr Whitty or with his help. The reprints were originally kept in seven box cabinets with eight drawers in each box. As the drawers were emptied a note was taken of the subject label for that drawer (if there was one) and they were boxed by the original box cabinet number. For example the first box cabinet (in which only seven of the eight drawers were used) has been decanted into two new boxes indicated as Box 1 1:2 and Box 1 2:2, with the reprints bundled in the box by drawer label and more than one 'drawer' in each box. The cards are in the original order and by drawer.
Some of the drawers had subject labels and some had additional labels indicating whether Dr Whitty had catalogued the drawer or not. Some reprints did not have an index card and some cards were found in drawers separated from their reprint. These 'strays' have been kept. The contents of cabinet box 5 were not catalogued so there are no cards for it.
The reprints are in Basement 11, row 11, bay 4 shelves 3-6 (as at April 2013)
