TitlePress cutting regarding modern housing plans
Date1860
Description Of ItemPress cutting from an unknown publication, published in April 1860. Copies an extract of a text called ‘Ideal Houses’ published in the Cornhill Magazine, where the author reflects upon his own search for an ideal house. He reflects favourably on the past, and as such his ideal dwelling would be a house built at least a hundred years ago, surrounded by a garden, in an old neighbourhood not far from London. In this extract, he mostly deplores the regularity and uniformity of modern constructions, detesting ‘a modern, well-advertised building estate’ in a newly constructed neighbourhood.

From the collection of Thomas Laycock.
