TitleJournal cutting on the side effects of chloroform
Date[mid 19th century]
Description Of ItemJournal cutting on the side effects of chloroform, from the collection of Thomas Laycock. Details how chloroform was used on a thirteen-year-old patient to treat toothache. After two inhalations, the individual stated that they ‘became insensible’ – simultaneously believing themselves to be in their college courtyard playing with their schoolfellows whilst having their operation and talking to the dentist and their mother. The dentist used ammonia to bring the patient back to their senses. The patient later stated it had felt like an hour with their schoolfellows and yet was aware that the operation only lasted one minute.
