| Description Of Item | Newspaper cutting from the collection of Thomas Laycock. Details how an individual named King was charged upon his own drunken confession to the landlord of Ranelagh Arms Tavern, Old Ford, London. King had stated to the landlord how [Franz] Müller and he needed money, so they planned Brigg’s murder three days before. He stated that they both struck Briggs after they had left Bow station, and together they threw him out of the train. Once taken into custody, King stated he was ‘not quite sober – but not thoroughly drunk’, and the police gave evidence that the prisoner was near the spot where Briggs was murdered two hours before it happened. Whilst in custody, King complained of being kept in prison, as he should not have made a statement whilst drunk. |
