Description Of ItemFrom the collection of Thomas Laycock. Printed article by CM [Charles Moore] Jessop on sunstroke, malaria and the effects of the moon, arguing that the rays of the sun and moon have three components – light, heat and chemical or actinic – and that it is the chemical ray which causes illnesses. There is also a table showing statistics for ‘fever and bowel complaints’ at Hoshungabad Dispensary and Hoshungabad Jail Hospital, in relation to the weather and to prisoner strength respectively [Hoshungabad also spelt Hoshangabad; Narmadapuram]. There is an article by Alexander Garden titled ‘Quinine as an Emmenagogue’. There is also the first page of an article by T D’O Partridge titled ‘Emigration’, discussing the British Government’s policies regarding the migration of workers from North-Western Province [region covering most of what is now Uttar Pradesh] to Assam in relation to the workers’ health.
