Details how some individuals experience a ‘very curious effect upon their complexion’ after eating lobster. Another example is given of a salad which resulted in a woman’s face ‘covered with spots’. The press cutting notes that cockles, shrimp, veal, figs, rice, have a similar adverse effect and that orange-peel has produced ‘great nervous excitement’. Details how Doctor [William] Prout was poisoned by eating a mutton chop, resulting in violet vomiting and diarrhoea.
