Description Of ItemPressing cutting on crabs and lobsters, by Frank Gosden. This cutting is from the collection of Thomas Laycock. Details how both crabs and lobsters shed their claws upon great stress due to light or noise. [Thomas Pennant] Pennont has noted in a previous issue of British Zoology (1 March 1777), that ‘Lobsters fear thunder, and are apt to cast their claws on a great clap’. It is noted they act similarly both upon experiencing the ‘firing of a great gun’ and when exposed to sudden light after being kept in the dark.
