Description | Lewis studied at the University of Edinburgh and University College, Liverpool. He graduated MB CMEd with first class honours in 1885 and took the diploma MRCSEng in the same year. He obtained MD in 1888, BSc in Public Health in 1900 and DSc a year later. He was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1895. In 1905 he went to Birmingham as lecturer in public health and bacteriology and became the Director of the Public Health Laboratory and Professor of Hygiene. [Source: British Medical Journal]
