| Description Of Item | Portfolio of drawings possibly made for Alexander Monro tertius' publication on Morbid Anatomy. He published Observations on Crural Hernia (1803); Morbid Anatomy of the Human Gullet, Stomach, and Intestines (1811); Outlines of the Anatomy of the Human Body (1813); Engravings of the Thoracic and Abdominal Viscera (1814); Morbid Anatomy of the Brain, volume 1; Anatomy of the Pelvis of the Male (1827); The Anatomy of the Brain (1831); and Anatomy of the Urinary Bladder and Perinaeum in the Male (1842). None of the drawings in the volume were used in the 1811 or 1842 works as these were consulted. The volume itself contains 16 drawings many of them pasted on to loose pages. The subjects include: arteries, blood clot, tumour in an arm, bowels and pelvis, skull, uterus, extrauterine foetus, gravid uterus, portions of lung and liver affected with tubercular disease, head and torso showing musculature and skeleton. Some drawings are unidentified. The artists include Patrick Syme, Thomas Donaldson, Ar [Archibald?] Fyfe and Charles Greville. Two of the images are dated 1778 and 1809. The volume also contained a number of other drawings which are at MAL/2. |
