Description Of ItemNotes on Michael Drayton, a poet, born in ‘Athelston’ [Atherstone] in Warwickshire and who died in 1621, and copy of his epitaph:
‘Do Pious marble, let thy readers know
what they, & what their Children owe
to Draytons name, whose sacred Dust
we recommend unto thy trust
Protect his memory, & preserve his story
Remain alasting monument of his glory;
& when thy ruines shall disclaim
to be the treasurer of his name,
his name [that] cannot fade must be
an Everlasting monument to thee’
