The volume consists of notes for lectures and is in draft form with numerous alterations. There are four dated lectures with obvious headings within the volume: 'Hypertrophy' February 1838; 'Morbid Changes of Structure consisting in the deposit of molecules differing in their organic nature or qualities from the natural molecule of the affected part' February 19th 1838; 'Heterologies Tissues and Deposits' March 4th 1837 (after the previous 1838 notes); 'Melanosis' March 13th 1838; 'Tubercle' March 15th 1838. Because of this the dates for the volume are not as given in the title.
Simpson has decorated the bottom of page 7 with his initials.
The title is as given on the spine of the bound volume. The whereabouts of Volume I is not known. Judging by their varying sizes and non-consecutive numbering, the pages were bound after they were used although it is not known when. |
