Description Of Item | Dawson Fyers Duckworth Turner was a member of the college and is notable for his works in radiology; he pioneered the development of X-rays in medicine and set up experimental X-Ray apparatus at his house in George Square. His experiments cost him three fingers and an eye due to radiation damage. In 1901 he became Physician in charge of X-Rays at the Royal Edinburgh Infirmary and in 1911 he was one of the earliest recorded Physicians to use X-Rays in the treatment of lymphosarcoma.
The collection includes the commission certificate of Dawson Turner to the Army Motor Reserve and two images which were enclosed within the certificate during donation. The images are of unknown origin. |
