Description Of Item | In the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s experiments were made on methods for urine glucose testing. Techniques involved copper tablets, oxidisation, heating devices and test strips. In 1969 the first portable blood glucose monitor was created by Ames Diagnostics. Initially it was developed for use by physicians, not patients, but from 1981 it was publicly available for sale and patients could acquire the devices to use them to self-monitor their blood glucose levels. |
