Anne of Denmark was the daughter of Frederick II of Denmark and Norway. She was married to James VI of Scotland by proxy on 20th August 1589. Along with her proxy husband she set sail for Scotland but the ship, in wild weather, was driven ashore on the coast of Norway. James, impatient at the delay, sailed from Leith to Norway on 22nd October 1589 and was married to Anne at Oslo, the ceremony being conducted by David Lyndsey, a minister from Leith. James and his young Queen spent the winter at the Danish Court and eventually embarked at Kronenberg, landing at Leith on 1st May 1590.
Queen Anne is of historical interest to the College as she was the wife of James VI of Scotland and I of England who favoured the first attempt to establish a College of Physicians of Scotland.
