Description Of Item | Oil on canvas, 121 x 170 cm
The artist has used the finding of a toy submarine on mud-flats off the north German coast and the poetic sound of an old cargo ship, the 'Naboland', to create an unknown, parallel world, Naboland. In this painting he has tried to combine memories of his days in Edinburgh University Mountaineering Club and impressions of a holiday in Nepal. Glencoe could easily be turned into a Himalayan scene by adding prayer flags to existing cairns and Highland cattle might easily be related to yaks.
This painting was purchased by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh as a mark of respect for Dr A. D. Toft during his presidency.
