Description Of Item | Copy of a map sent to the President of the College (Robert William Philip) by [J M Masters], Lieutenant-Colonel, Private Secretary, on behalf of Field-Marshal Douglas Haig.
With accompanying letter, significantly faded, stating 'Field-Marshal Earl Haig has asked me to send you with his compliments, the enclosed copy of a map which was kept from day to day in his writing room at Montreuil. The copy shows the situation on the Western Front immediately prior to the breaking of the Hindenburg Line on the 27th/29th September 1918. It reveals in striking manner the dense messing of German divisions opposite the British front of attack.' |
