DescriptionProfessor David Murray Lyon was Professor of Therapeutics & Clinical Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, author of a number of medical text books, including 'The Essentials of Medical Treatment'. He was a member of a pioneering team at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary working on the development of insulin as a treatment for diabetes, being in charge of the clinical research, diets and psychological observations. It was there, in 1924, that the first UK diabetic outpatient department was started, and a later Report stated that it was to Dr Lyon 'should go the credit for the development and scope of the Dietetic Department as it is today.' He was President of Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh 1945-1947.
