Description Of ItemWilliam Pulteney Alison has written a note on the flyleaf 'This book is meant to contain cases whether taken from journals, publications, conversation or memory - abstracts of medical works - extracts from them - copies of prescriptions etc'. Although it contains some case notes it is mostly directions and prescriptions for unspecified cases and notes from books and articles. These include 'Diseases of Europeans in Warm Climates' by James Lind; 'Diseases of Minorca' by George Cleghorn; 'Directions of Galen for Discovering the parts affected in Disease' by Le Clerc; [Thomas] Sydenham's description of hysteria; abstracts from Russell; abstract of the leading principles of Bichat's Anatomie Generale; 'Facts regarding different diseases of the Abdominal Viscera' by Pemberton; 'Notes on Purulent Ophthalmia from papers of P McGregor'; 'Notes on Hydrocephalus' by Dr Carmichael Smyth; Notes from Brodie on Disease; Notes from Wardrop on Toes and Fingers; Books referred to by Dr Gordon; and Notes from Wilson Philip on Hepatic or Dyspeptic Phthisis.
