TitleCase note book of the British Lying in Hospital
Date24 May 1775-31 Dec 1778
TermObstetrics and gynaecology
Description Of ItemEach case note gives the patient's name, symptoms and treatment. The first seven pages are an index arranged chronologically which gives a brief diagnosis and the page number of the case. After the index an introductory page is inscribed 'Hospl [Hospital] Pats [Patients] May 1775 Journal 1 - the first separate collection of hospl patients began 24 May 1775 before this they were mixed from [?] my pats in private practice'. Periodically there are statistics on the incidents of fever in the hospital and the number of admissions recovering and dying. Other notes have been bound into the volume at the rear, one of which has a note addressed to Mr [Gashshore?] on the reverse. According to the original manuscripts catalogue, the cases in the volume are mainly those of Maxwell Garthshore. There is no obvious internal evidence for this although the notes are written in the first person.
