DescriptionSir Iain Chalmers was born on 3 June 1943. Chalmers qualified in medicine in the 1960s and then practiced as a clinician before, in 1978, becoming the first director of the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit in Oxford. He founded the James Lind Library, which documents the history and evolution of clinical trials. He has published extensively on antenatal care and the history of clinical trials.
