Paediatrics
Description Of ItemAsking for Cullen's comments on papers sent him 'some time ago'. He goes on to write about the Inquiry and his Small Pox Society: 'I cannot discern any reasonable doubt, that the Rules of Prevention are sufficient to extinguish the contagion...Lately one child was seized by the S P in a poor family. Three others, the father and two children had never had the distemper and were preserved from infection by separation and cleanliness, tho' they all along remained in the same family '. He had also received a copy of Cullen's Synopsis from Dr Jones and according to Cullen's request that he comment on it writes: 'it should be remembered that when we attempt to descry specks in the Sun, we mean not dark but less luminous spots...I always highly admired your method of arranging diseases. But the last edition of your Synopsis greatly exceeded my expectation. It is a book that will be ever in my hands.' He ends by writing: 'I have been thinking of a plan to render them [the Rules of Prevention] more extensively useful. If I can digest it into a feasible form, I may take the liberty of submitting the idea to your consideration.' This last refers to the manuscript at CUL/1/2/1114.
